Abbey launches generous new packaged current account
July 1, 2009
By Mark Warner

The new Reward Bank Account from Abbey pays 6 per cent interest and offers a wealth of other benefits for a fee of £10 per month.

For balances up to £2,500, the account pays 6 per cent interest for a year, providing the account holders pays in at least £1,000 a month. In addition, the account also offers motoring assistance from Green Flag, including home call and roadside assistance, commission-free travel money, annual worldwide travel insurance for two adults and four children and an interest-free overdraft of £100.

Abbey claims that if account holders make the most of all the benefits offered, they could save up to £310 each year.

Alternatively, Abbey also offers the Abbey Bank Account, which is a free account also offering 6 per cent on balances up to £2,500 for a year with credits of £1,000 a month. This account could be a better option for people who do not think they will use the extra benefits on offer with the packaged account, which means the £10 monthly fee is simply not worth the outlay.

However, for those who will use the travel insurance and the breakdown recovery, the Reward Bank Account is a stand-out option.
