BA and partners offer to give up flight slots
Wed, 10 Mar 2010, 16:20:00
British Airways
, American Airlines and Iberia have offered to give up some of their transatlantic flight slots in exchange for clearance from the European Commission for an alliance between the airlines. The Commission said they have offered to make available landing and take-off slots at London Heathrow or London Gatwick airports on routes to Boston, New York, Dallas and Miami. The Commission has given interested parties a month to comment on the alliance's offer. The three airlines want to take advantage of an 'Open Skies' agreement between the EU and US that liberalises flights between the two areas. The US Department of Transportation, is conducting a parallel review into the proposed arrrangement under US rules.
