Barclaycard offers new student credit card
01/09/2006

Students are being offered a new specifically-designed credit card, in time for the beginning of the first university semester.

Barclaycard Student is a new card, which aims to help students use credit in a sensible manner, in addition to making the most of their time at university.

The credit card's features include not having a fee for accidentally going over the credit limit and a limit of £600 at account opening.

Additionally, the card offers a minimum monthly repayment of five per cent, as well as free text message reminders of when the monthly payment is due.

James Le Brocq, Head of Barclaycard UK credit cards, said: "We have tried to create a card which will help students get the most out of university life but recognises that there are times when finances will be under pressure.

"By keeping credit limits sensible, reducing charges and introducing features like text reminders, students can build a credit history which will prove useful throughout university and beyond."

One further attraction of the Barclaycard Student is that it offers a Dell laptop for £360, which cardholders can repay at a fee of £30 per month for 12 months, interest-free.

New top-up fees have been introduced for university study this year, adding an extra cost of up to £3,000.
