British tourists urged to take financial caution
10/07/2006
UK holidaymakers should be credit card cautious on their travels this summer, according to AA Travel Insurance.
Anyone planning a trip abroad this summer should inform their credit card company before they go, so that it can prepare for the unfamiliar spending that is likely to occur, the insurers state.
Irregular spending abroad can often lead to credit card companies blocking accounts as a safety measure, holidaymakers are warned.
Additional travel advice offered by the AA includes tips to protect against potential financial loss, such as reporting missing baggage and taking out car insurance.
The AA advises travelling Brits to ensure their car insurance is comprehensive, which will cover all eventualities abroad, while missing bags should be reported straight away.
A reason for this is because some airlines will not reimburse money for lost baggage once the individual in question has left the airport.
Although AA Travel Insurance indicates that people should not forget to have fun while they on holiday, it does state that holidaymakers should be aware that a number of insurance companies will not pay out for alcohol-related accidents.
Research from market analysts Mintel earlier this year show that Britons are spending much more on luxury items than they were ten years ago, with holidays being the main source of the spending.
