Many
car insurance polices currently available in the UK do not include uninsured loss recovery, (ULR) new research has indicated.
Defaqto recently examined 223 comprehensive
car insurance polices in order to provide information on claiming money back for uninsured crashes or incidents.
It found that 28 per cent of these polices do not incorporate ULR, while 51 per cent only offer it at an additional cost to the consumer.
According to the findings, just 21 per cent of those policies surveyed offered ULR as a standard part of the insurance package.
Mike Powell, insight analyst for general insurance at Defaqto, said, "Many
motor insurance policies offer legal services at an optional extra premium to cover the motorist's legal costs to pursue a claim following an accident."
He advised anyone taking out
car insurance to be absolutely clear what a policy covered before signing up, as requirements vary between customers.
Mr Powell pointed to a study of 5,000 motorists recently carried out by his organisation, which revealed that the biggest concern for those aged 55 to 65 was policy excesses being imposed following an accident.
