Friday's tips round up: Misys, Gem and Standard Life
Fri, 27 Jan 2012, 07:30:00
In the Times's Tempus column, Martin Waller rehearses the arguments for and against the banking software company
Misys
. It keeps missing targets and has seen potential suitors walk away, bringing down the share price. On the other hand, orders are healthy, especially in fast growth Asia. Waller, however, thinks that for the cautious minded, Misys would bring too much anxiety: avoid. Meanwhile Garry White in the Questor column in the Telegraph has the awkward task of revisiting
Gem Diamonds
, which owns the Letseng mine in Lesotho and the Ellendale mine in Australia. It was tipped by Questor back in 2009 and has fallen 26% since then. Questor does not want to be caught out again and says hold for now, despite Gem producing sales and production figures yesterday ahead of expectations. In the Independent, Sharewatch gives
Standard Life
the once over. It has not got the pizazz of Aviva or Prudential and is certainly not exposed as heavily to fast growth Asia. Then again, it's a possible takeover target and only trades at 1.2 times the net asset value. Sharewatch thinks there are sexier plays out there but concedes the yield of 6.4% makes Standard Life at least a hold.
