HSBC has announced it is to extend its opening hours to make banking more convenient for its customers.
The group said the move reflects the changing nature of high street banking, which is no longer simply a quick visit when there are a few minutes to spare.
Consequently, an additional 170
HSBC branches will now be open for business on Saturdays, while 80 branches will stay open later during the week.
Peter Keenan, head of network at
HSBC, said customers need more time to get the most from their high street bank than in the past, so it was important that the opening hours were extended.
"Customers value convenience and easy access ... the extended opening hours are key to ensuring that we continue to be the natural first choice for people when they are considering their financial requirements," he said.
A recent survey of consumers carried out by MoneySavingExpert.com revealed that 86 per cent of First Direct customers believe it has the best customer service, while 75 per cent of Co-op customers were also happy with their bank.
