New on-line card scam revealed
08/04/2005
Panda Software is alerting consumers to the risks posed by a new on-line credit card scam.
It has found several websites offering spurious cheap flight deals to trick consumers into disclosing their credit card details.
The sites ask for the number, expiry date and verification value (CCV) of the credit card, and, when filled in, an error page appears saying that the transaction has been unsuccessful.
PandaLabs director Luis Corrons said: "This kind of online fraud differs from those witnessed previously. The malicious user does not contact the person interested in buying the product, but it is actually the buyer, in searching for the best prices online, who goes to the fraudulent web page."
He continued: "This creates a false sense of security that can lead users to proceed with the transaction."
It is advised that the consumers only fill in their credit card details on established, trustworthy sites and avoid the lure of give away prices.
