Isa investors 'considering green options'
05/02/2007

Around seven in ten people who are planning their individual savings account (Isa) allowance ahead of the new tax year are considering eco-friendly investments, new research from Co-operative Financial Services (CFS) shows.

This follows findings from the financial services provider which indicate that ethical investments increased by 10.5 per cent during 2005 and currently equate to over £6 billion.

However, the study also reveals that 72 per cent will not be making Isa investments during the current tax year.

By not placing their money in such a savings vehicle, consumers will be missing out on the tax-efficient benefits it provides, CFS states.

Zach Hocking, head of savings and investments at CFS, said: "With a green Isa, investors can get attractive returns without paying tax on what they earn and help to support a more sustainable future for the environment.

"I'd urge anyone who is yet to use their allowance for this tax year to think about investing as soon as possible. Miss the deadline and the tax break is lost forever."

CFS was formed by bringing together Co-operative Insurance Society and the Co-operative Bank, which includes the smile group.
