Legal & General advise saving for a snowy day
November 18, 2010
By John Rowling

With the cold winter months fast approaching, homeowners are being warned to set a small proportion of money aside in savings accounts each month in order to cover any unexpected bills.

Legal & General last week advised people to check their properties to ensure there are no leaks, drafts or other problems that may become worse once the extreme weather kicks in.

Now, the building society has urged customers to put aside some savings for a rainy - or snowy day.

The recent MoneyMood Survey carried out by Legal & General highlighted that 30 per cent of customers were forced to find extra money which wasn't in their budgets, in order to cover an unexpected bill or household expense.

Mark Gregory, executive director of savings at Legal & General said, “It makes sense for households to look at their budget and get into the habit of saving a small amount each month.

“Adopting this strategy will help individuals to avoid the impact of nasty surprises,” he added.

The most common unexpected bills include car repairs and having to fork out for household appliances to be fixed, maintained or replaced.
