MBNA launches mobile banking facility
June 30, 2010
By Liz Parks

MBNA has unveiled a new facility which allows customers to check their credit card balance via their mobile phone.

The credit card company – which is one of the most prevalent in the UK – previously offered a similar service, which could only be accessed by iPhone or Blackberry users.

However, as demand for mobile banking increases in the UK, the new system has been rolled out to all UK customers, allowing them to check their balance, transaction and bill details by simply texting 83838.

Ian Craig, sales, service and operations executive for Bank of America Europe Card Services, said customers' needs are changing and they want to be able to manage their finances in a way that suits their lifestyle.

“Newer technology, including mobile phone functionality, SMS, the Internet and voice recognition systems are transforming the way our customers expect us to interact with them," he said.

"The Mobile Banking Text service is one of a number of exciting new improvements we will be making to our services."

The service will be available on all cards provided by MBNA, which currently has around five million UK-based account customers.
