Mint offers new gift for cardholders
06/09/2006
Consumers will be able to buy anything they want at a variety of shops with a new gift card offered by credit card provider Mint.
The gift card enables friends and family to put money - from £10 to £250 - onto an individual's debit card, making it ideal for birthdays and Christmas.
Mint indicates that well-wishers can deliver the money gift on the day of their choice and the card itself costs £3 to buy.
However, the gift card is free to use for the recipient and they can receive it with their name and a personalised message.
Mint's gift card, although similar to vouchers that can be exchanged for goods in music and book shops, is the first of its kind to allow customers to split their purchases across a number of different stores.
A further feature of the credit card company's gift scheme permits those who have been bequeathed money to check how much they have left via a text message service or dedicated phone line.
However, Mint states that the money placed on a card must be used within 12 months.
In related credit card news, recent research from the Morgan Stanley Credit Card indicates that reward-based cards are more popular than zero per cent offers.
Morgan Stanley suggests that consumers are beginning to consider the long-term effects of using a credit card.
