Another phone has been launched with the ability to function as a credit card, it has been revealed.
The Samsung Wave 578 on is being launched by Orange in association with Barclaycard and will allow the user to benefit from Quick Tap contactless payments around the country.
Earlier this year, the companies announced the Samson Tocco Quick Tap as the first in its range of contactless payment handsets. But as the technology becomes more widespread, the range of handsets on offer looks set to grow.
A number of major retail chains are taking part in the scheme, including Pret a Manger, EAT, Wilkinson and McDonalds. However, the credit card replacement system can only be used to make purchases under £15 and under as a security provision.
David Chan, chief executive of Barclaycard Consumer Europe, commented: "Paying with a mobile phone means never being without the right change, and always having access to funds.
“That's why I believe contactless mobile is the future of payments, and I'm keen it's made available to as many of our customers as possible.”
Consumers can make use of the devices by loading funds of up to £100 onto their handset using the Quick Tap app and their Barclaycard, Barclays debit or Orange Credit Card.
