Ryanair has changed its payment options and customers are now required to sign up for a new pre-paid credit card in order to avoid charges when paying for flights.
At the moment, passengers who use Mastercard pre-paid credit cards do not need to pay the £6 administration fee on each journey they make with the airline. But from November, this will change and they will no longer be exempt fro the charge.
Instead, only the passengers who sign up to the new Ryanair Cash Passport will be able to forgo this cost. Unfortunately, the branded card comes with a number of downsides. Charges are imposed for withdrawing cash and also for not using the card for six months or more.
The new card costs £6 to buy and comes with a £2 fee for using the card at an ATM, a £4 charge for using it to withdraw cash over the counter from a bank, a 50p charge for all other transactions – with the exception of Ryanair bookings – and a rolling fee of £2.50 if no transactions are made for six months.
But customers will be offered a £6 Ryanair travel voucher upon the initial purchase of the credit card and there will be no charge for topping it up with extra funds.
