New service to help ID theft victims
13/10/2006
A new partnership between Capita Insurance Services and the Retired Insurance Advisory Service (RIAS) aims to create a solution "that is directly relevant to victims of ID theft".
The new identity theft resolution service interacts with the nation's credit reference agencies in order to avoid credit data gaps and offers advice and information on how to prevent ID theft in the future.
Capita is to run the new service, which RIAS hopes to roll out to its 800,000 policy holders from this month onwards.
Following the introduction of the service, there are now one million people who have access to the capita service, which will help protect their money and savings.
Max Pell, managing director at Capita Legal Services, said: "Identity theft has become one of Britain's fastest growing crimes, costing us £1.7 billion a year according to latest estimates.
"Capita's unique identity theft recovery service is designed to help by providing insurers and other third parties with a low-cost, high value, bespoke service to offer to their customers."
He added that after investing in this "large resource", Capita understands what the victims of ID theft want.
Capita's service provides "a single point of contact for victims", Mr Pell concludes, giving them an opportunity to address any loss of money or savings via ID theft.
ID theft has cost businesses alone around £700 million in the last year, according to insurance provider Royal & Sun Alliance.
