New site openings helped five a side football group
Goals Soccer
post a rise in pre-tax profits in the year to December 31. Profits before tax rose by 7% from the previous year to £8.8m on sales that climbed by 10% to £26.2m. The company, which now has 34 centres, opened sites at Coventry, Reading and Liverpool during the year. It was also helped by the resilience of its core offering in the face of tough economic conditions. Like-for-like revenue (which excludes the impact of new openings) from football pitch rental, which accounts for about 75% of sales, were up by 1%. Bar and vending machine like-for-like sales, climbed by 2%, but birthday party like-for-like sales were down by 8% and corporate events and sponsorships saw a 17% like-for-like sales decline. 'As previously intimated, the economic downturn has impacted ancillary income; this has been particularly evident in corporate events which have borne the biggest impact,' the company said. 'However, we expect the 2010 World Cup to revitalise the level of corporate business and birthday parties.' Snow, which in late 2009 and early 2010 disrupted trading across all centres, has continued to have an impact, but sales have continued growing, the company said.
