Orange has this week launched the UK's first major prepaid MasterCard card which can be used to make small contactless purchases.
Orange Cash allows users to pre-load the card with between £5 and £5,000 which can then be spent in over 30 million locations globally that accept MasterCard payments. The card is aimed at those who want the flexibility and security of a credit card, without having to worry about spending money they don’t have. Orange says the card is especially useful for people such as students trying to manage a budget and holidaymakers who don't want to carry a lot of cash.
The prepaid cards can be topped up at shops, petrol stations, PayPoint machines, post offices, on the Orange website and in its retail stores. Orange Pay As You Go customers also earn reward points for using the card. The points can be exchanged for texts, phone credit, mobiles, vouchers and more.
Customers can manage their money by mobile phone, with the ability to review their latest transactions, top up and check their balance. For purchases costing less than £15, Orange Cash users can take advantage of contactless technology by holding their card up to a contactless reader.
Pippa Dunn, vice president of Orange Propositions said, "We're excited to be launching such an innovative product for UK consumers in the financial services space. With Orange Cash, users will not only benefit from the convenience and control our new contactless prepaid card will offer them, but the unique ability to collect and redeem rewards against future Orange products and services."
