Car-owners are being urged to prepare their cars properly for the warmer weather to avoid having to make an unnecessary car insurance claims.
Peter Rodger, chief examiner of road safety charity IAM, has said that now is a good time to limit the damage of winter wear and tear and to prepare your car for summer. He advises that a key thing to look out for salt left over on the body work of the car, which if left could cause rusting.
Refilling washer fluid is also essential, he says, to keep out pesky flies. He also urges motorists to check their wheel and tyre alignment, which could have been misaligned due to the winter's potholes. This is important as unaligned tyres will wear out more quickly.
He warns that even though the weather is getting warmer, anti-freeze should still be used all year-round as it contains corrosion inhibitors which will help avoid expensive engine damage.
Rodger commented, "After a long winter of wear and tear from snow, salt and potholes, your car needs attention. Preparing for the summer and making checks now can save you a lot of money in the long run."
