Santander offers incentive to switch
November 5, 2010
By Caroline Johnson

High Street banking group Santander is once again offering customers a cash incentive to change to one of its current accounts.

The Spanish-owned chain will pay customers £100 to switch their account. The bank will take care of the switchover process for all current account services, including direct debits and overdraft facilities.

Santander says it will match any overdraft up to £5,000, providing the customer’s circumstances meet its requirements. The account also offers 5 per cent interest.

The head of Santander Current Accounts, Gillian Almond, said, "With the addition of an extra 300 Santander branches on the high street by the end of November, it's even easier for customers to make the move."

She also said that people should not be concerned about the hassle involved in switching current accounts as the dedicated Account Transfer Service takes all the pressure off the account holder.

The offer follows the latest wave of rebranding of Alliance & Leicester branches to Santander after the Spanish bank took over the UK chain of high street banks.

Current account customers are being urged by price comparison sites to shop around for the best rates on current accounts and savings accounts, while the base interest rate remains so low.
