As a new batch of freshers embark on their university career, credit cards aimed specifically at students have been promoted as a way to help younger people's finances.
Recently, Barclaycard released a new Student Credit Card offering lower than normal APRs, designed to help those going to university to borrow sensibly.
The Co-Operative Bank is one provider that thinks student credit cards in general are a good idea and that they are an "effective way for people to manage their finances" on a monthly basis.
Andy Hammerton, a spokesperson for the bank, commented: "Our view is that there are times when a student using a credit card is a suitable way of borrowing money.
"Credit cards allow people to manage their finances in such a way that if their individual circumstances match can be beneficial."
Mr Hammerton added that they offer a "flexible" way of managing debt, as they do not rely on a borrower paying a fixed amount each month.
Apacs, the UK payments association, recently announced the launch of a guide aimed for the UK student population.
Contained within are hints and tips on borrowing appropriately, managing money and protecting oneself against the risk of fraud.
