Website names Honda most crash-prone car in UK
June 14, 2011
By Mark Warner

Online car insurance resource Confused.com has named the Honda FV-R the most-crashed car in the UK, as nearly a fifth of its owners have made an insurance claim.

A survey conducted by Confused shows that 18.4 per cent of the 2,529 FV-R owners made insurance claims in the last five years. Following the FV-R are the Volvo XC90 and Lexus RX, with 15.9 per cent and 15.5 per cent of owners making claims respectively. Behind them are the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Rav4, Mazda 3 and Volkswagen Touran. Each make has a ratio of one accident claim for every seven users.

The survey is not, however, definitive - it was based on an opinion poll conducted among the website’s users. The comparison portal warned its readers that, for this and other reasons, the results might only be a “snapshot” of insurance claims.

"Car accidents are rarely a result of mechanical failures: they are more often caused by human error or just bad fortune. It could be that drivers of this model happen to be more careless or reckless than other motorists,” said Confused.com representative Mr Gareth Kloet when asked about the results of the survey.
